About Me

I am Dr. Karam Badran, a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with The Permanente Medical Group at Kaiser Permanente in South San Francisco, California, where I have practiced since 2020. Having grown up in the Bay Area, it is especially meaningful to care for patients in the community I have called home for more than 30 years. This personal website offers an introduction to my clinical background, approach to patient care, and ongoing work in research and medical education.

Clinical Focus

My clinical work at Kaiser Permanente includes cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck, as well as nonsurgical treatments. I perform deep plane facelift and neck lift surgery, rhinoplasty, brow lift, facial fat grafting, septoplasty, and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). I also perform facial reconstruction following Mohs skin cancer surgery, facial trauma, and facial reanimation surgery following facial paralysis or Bell’s palsy. Per year, I perform approximately 200 facial Mohs reconstructive surgeries, 120 septorhinoplasties, and 60 facial rejuvenation surgeries.

Approach to Patient Care

My approach begins with listening: understanding what brings you in, what you hope to achieve, and what matters most to you. Together, we develop a personalized treatment plan that reflects your goals, facial anatomy, and individual features. Whether you are seeking cosmetic surgery or facial reconstruction, my aim is to achieve natural-looking results that help you feel more confident while preserving what makes you uniquely you.

Surgical Training

I have been fortunate to complete my education and surgical training in California, the state my patients and I call home. I earned my undergraduate degree at UC San Diego’s John Muir College and my medical degree at UC Irvine, where I graduated with research honors and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA), the national medical honor society recognizing academic excellence, leadership, and service. I then completed my internship and residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA, where I served as chief resident. I went on to complete fellowship training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCSF with Drs. Daniel Knott, Rahul Seth, and Andrea Park.

Research, Education, and Innovation

Alongside my clinical practice, I remain involved in research, medical education, and surgical innovation. My academic interests include regenerative treatments such as platelet-rich plasma; the development of laser, high-frequency ultrasound, and radiofrequency devices; facial reconstruction; rhinoplasty; cartilage biomechanics; and patient-centered outcomes. I have authored and co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and presented research at more than 100 scientific meetings in the United States and internationally.
